If you're a fan of Edgar Allan Poe, you may know that he was stationed with the army at Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island in 1827. This is where he drew the inspiration for his short story "The Gold-Bug," published in 1843, about a man who relocates to Sullivan's after losing his family fortune. The story turns mysterious and cryptic like many of Poe's stories do, and this scent is enchanting and intriguing much like Poe's tales.
